State Representative Floyd L. Griffin, Jr. issues a strong statement of support for Federal Reserve Governor Lisa D. Cook, a proud Milledgeville native, in response to recent calls for her resignation from former President Donald Trump.
Cook, who joined the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in 2022, made history as the first African American woman and first woman of color to serve on the board. She is widely recognized for her distinguished scholarship, dedication to economic fairness, and her unwavering commitment to protecting the stability of the U.S. financial system.
“Governor Cook is one of the most accomplished leaders our nation has produced,” said Griffin.
“She has worked tirelessly to strengthen our economy, safeguard families, and open doors for the next generation. As a daughter of Milledgeville, she represents the best of our community, our state, and our country.
Calls for her resignation are politically motivated and unfounded. Georgia stands proudly behind her.”
Born and raised in Milledgeville, Cook’s early experiences during school desegregation in Georgia helped shape her lifelong pursuit of justice and inclusion. She went on to excel academically, earning degrees from Spelman College, Oxford University, and a Ph.D. in Economics from UC Berkeley. Over her career, she has served as an advisor in the Obama Administration, a professor at Michigan State University and Harvard, and a mentor to countless young economists.
Her groundbreaking research spans macroeconomics, international finance, economic history, and innovation.
She has been a national voice for bringing more women and minorities into economics and has represented the values of fairness and opportunity at every level of her work. “Leaders should solve problems, not create them,” Griffin added.
“Governor Cook has dedicated her life to service, scholarship, and economic progress. The people of Milledgeville and Georgia are proud to call her our own. The nation needs her steady hand and vision now more than ever.”
Floyd Griffin represents District 149 in the Georgia House of Representatives.
