Georgia Military College honored six employees with GMC Auxiliary & Facility Operations for their years of service.
Larry Coffee and Richard Wright with maintenance were each recognized for 10 years of service. Chris Jordan of the custodial team, Iesha Ford with food service, Marcus Robinson with transportation, and Jon Clark with property were each recognized for five years of service.
“I was pleased to receive the recognition,” said Coffee.
“It’s a nice honor to be recognized for your time and work.” Clark added, “It felt like a very short five years, so I was a bit surprised it had been that long.”
In 2014, Coffee worked in Madison while living in Putnam County. He desired to be closer to Milledgeville and saw an opening in the maintenance department for a general maintenance mechanic. He saw it as the opportunity to work closer to home.
“It was a very good opportunity and I’ve been happy ever since,” said Coffee. “I’ve been able to advance through the department and I am currently the maintenance manager at GMC. We maintain, construct, and take care of the buildings across the main campus and satellite campuses.”
Clark moved from Salt Lake City to Milledgeville seeking to continue his education. He picked Georgia Military College because there was no out-of-state tuition. He went to school for two years and immediately began working at the college upon graduation.
“I am the inventory control supervisor. I’m in charge of the inventory for all of our campuses for the physical furniture and manage the state surplus,” said Clark. I’ve worked at GMC for 5 years full-time and nine months part-time.”
Coffee stated he’s stayed at GMC because “it is a place with opportunity to grow” and because it is a “unique” environment to work.
“It is a fine place to work. There is no routine. There is something different each day,” said Coffee. “I’ve enjoyed working here.”
Clark stated that GMC has become a “family situation,” which is why he has continued to work at the college.
“My wife, my two daughters, and my son-in-law all work as GMC,” said Clark. “GMC has done a lot for us. GMC is part of our family.”
Both Coffee and Clark stated they plan to work at GMC for the foreseeable future and they are gracious for being recognized.
“I want to thank my fellow team members for their years of service and am honored to be recognized beside them,” said Coffee. Clark added, “We’re pleased that each of them got their rewards alongside us. It pleases us to stand together.”
