Playing in their first game since Sept. 13, the Baldwin Braves returned to the gridiron last Friday night in Milledgeville against Hephzibah and handed the Rebels a 57-0 loss. The win improved the Braves’ record to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in region play this season.

Baldwin got its first score of the night after recovering a muffed punt on the Rebels’ 10-yard line. The Braves were unable to punch the ball in for a touchdown.

However, after a turnover on downs, Baldwin’s defense sacked Hephzibah’s quarterback in the endzone to record a safety for a 2-0 lead.

The Braves received the free kick after the safety and drove over 50 yards and scored on a short pass from LJ Pounds to Sadur Salahuddin, who ran 30 yards for a touchdown.

Baldwin extended its lead to 10-0 after the extra point.

Baldwin’s defense forced another turnover with Brandon Dixon recovering a fumble on the Rebels’ 14-yard line.

Salahuddin again scored for the Braves with a nine-yard run and by halftime Baldwin had put up 44 points while holding Hephzibah scoreless.

A pair of touchdown passes from Pounds to Jaylen King with one extra point scored in the third quarter provided the overwhelming 57-0 final score. This Friday in Augusta the Braves will face one of their toughest challenges of the season when they go up against region rival Aquinas at 7:30 p.m.

Coming off a 12-7 win over Harlem last Friday, the Irish are 3-2 overall and 2-1 in region play.
