Baldwin football begins pre-season prep

The Baldwin Braves football team traveled to Athens last Wednesday to participate in the annual University of Georgia 7-on-7 football camp.

The Braves began their summer football practices early this month, preparing to compete against some of the best programs in the state, such as Cambridge and Allatoona.

Both of those teams also attended the UGA camp, with the Braves facing each of them Wednesday morning at Sanford Stadium in the early rounds of the 7-on-7 tournament.

Braves starting quarterback Lamar Pounds showed off his talented arm on some key throws to receiver Jaylen King, who made a terrific catch in the corner of the endzone to score a touchdown against Allatoona.

Running backs Johnathan Butts and Sadur Salahuddin also made some solid plays in the receiving game as well. The two backs are expected to be a major part of the Braves’ offense in 2024 and will compete for the starting nod before Baldwin’s regular season opener Aug 17 at home versus Perry.

The Braves’ defense made some timely plays as well, forcing multiple interceptions throughout the day.

Baldwin will continue its summer practices and workouts until the end of this month, as the GHSA-mandated dead period begins early in July.
