JMA ready for playoffs to start

The John Milledge Academy (JMA) Trojans opened their regular season on the diamond with a 15-0 shellacking of Brentwood late in February and closed out their schedule last Wednesday with a 10-0 win over the same visiting team.

The Trojans finished with a 10-11 record and went 3-5 in region play, and though their final record was not what they had hoped for, the Trojans still earned a bye in the first round of state playoffs.

Against the visiting War Eagles on Senior Day at JMA, senior Cooper Wilburn started on the mound for the Trojans and struck out the side.

The Trojans offense got hot early as well, quickly loading the bases. The first run scored on a David Todd walk, followed by a pair of runs on hit-by-pitches. Bradyn Harrison earned a walk and scored the fourth run for the Trojans, followed by Bud Veal hitting a hard ground ball single up the middle to score Cooper Young and give JMA a 5-0 lead after one inning.

Wilburn led off at the plate in the bottom of the second inning and hit his sixth homer off the roof of the batting cages in left field to give the Trojans their sixth run of the game.

One more run scored for JMA in the fourth inning, followed by a pair of JMA batters walking in the fifth before Wilburn got his second hit of the game and his second and third RBIs, scoring Harrison and Veal on a double to left field.

Will Adams walked the Trojans off on a line drive to left-center field that scored Wilburn to give the Trojans the 10-0 win in a mercy-ruled five innings.

JMA seniors Bellflower, Wilburn, Young, and Veal were recognized after the game.

JMA will host the winner of the series between Dominion Christian (15-10) and Lakeview Academy (7-10) at home in Milledgeville this Friday.
