Bravettes start strong in region tourney

The Baldwin Bravettes concluded their regular season on Feb. 6, going 22-2 overall and undefeated at 12-0 in region play.

The Bravettes capped off their schedule with a 67-39 victory over a Swainsboro team that didn’t put up much of a battle as Baldwin jumped out to a 15-4 lead after the first quarter and held a 25-13 advantage at halftime.

Swainsboro put up a stronger third quarter with the Lady Tigers scoring 16 points in the third while Baldwin scored 15 to sustain a 40-29 lead heading into the final quarter.

Baldwin then had its best quarter of the day, posting 27 points to win 67-39 over Swainsboro.

The Bravettes’ scoring leaders were junior Kassidy Neal with 20 points, senior Madison Ruff with 17, and junior Janaye Walker with 12 points. Defensively, Walker had nine defensive rebounds and eleven total rebounds, while Jasmine Williams had eight total rebounds.

The Bravettes then turned their attention to the region tournament at Howard High School in Macon, where they played West Laurens in the opening round this Tuesday.

The game was never in doubt as the Bravettes led 55-18 at the half and 87-23 at the final buzzer. Neal was again the scoring leader with 18 points, Ruff contributed 15, Williams had 14, and Zy’Keria Pashal was the last Bravette in double digits with 11 points.

Ruff had nine total rebounds against West Laurens, while Walker and JaMya Easley each contributed six rebounds.
