The Baldwin boys’ basketball team captured the Region 2 4A title last Tuesday with a comeback win at home over Macon’s Westside Seminoles.
The Braves had a surprisingly slow start at home versus Westside, finding themselves down by double digits several times in the first half. But a resurgent second half propelled the Braves to a region-title-clinching victory.
Baldwin’s night started poorly as the Braves were down 20-5 at the end of the first quarter.
The visiting ‘Noles seemed to be hitting every jump shot and 3-pointer they attempted in a dominant first quarter. In the second quarter, they continued the same until the Braves rallied in the final few minutes before halftime and cut Westside’s lead to 30-28.
The second half wrote a very different story for the Braves. Baldwin posted 22 points in the third quarter while holding Westside to just 13. The Seminoles appeared to have given all they had by the fourth quarter, scoring just nine points while Baldwin added 13 en route to a 63-52 win.
Tremarius Lawrence was Baldwin’s leading scorer with 23 points, eight total rebounds, and four assists. Karez Demory, Isaiah Dennis, and Omari Woodard each scored double digits as well, with Woodward having eight rebounds, too.
Baldwin hosted West Laurens the following Friday and went on to dominate the Raiders 91-49 in Milledgeville, marking their second-highest points total of the season. The Braves beat Spalding 105-85 in December.
The Braves finished their regular season this Tuesday at home with another dominating 73-30 win over Swainsboro that left them with a 22-2 record for the regular season.
