JMA girls win 10-straight to open season

The John Milledge Academy Lady Trojans extended their season-opening win streak to 10 games with a 46-36 victory over Tattnall Square Academy last Wednesday.

The Lady Trojans had a slow start but reached a 10-6 lead in the second quarter. By the end of the first half, JMA’s dominant defense had created a 20-9 lead. TSA made some big plays in the third quarter, though, and climbed its way to 19 points, but JMA still led by 11 heading into the final quarter.

JMA’s Lady Trojans built up a comfortable 34-24 lead, then tacked on 12 more points to secure the 46-36 final for their 10th-straight win and first region victory of the season.

Though the Lady Trojans won comfortably, the stats showed a slightly different game with Tattnall Square outrebounding JMA by five and recording just one less block than JMA. The JMA girls did, however, lead in steals with 11 and led in all shooting category percentages.

The Lady Trojans’ winning streak did come to a close, though, at home Friday night when they fell by five points with a 45-40 decision favoring First Presbyterian Day (FPD). Regardless, they got right back on track with a 37-34 win at home Saturday over Deerfield-Windsor.

Next up for the Lady Trojans will be road games this week against region foes Stratford Academy and Mount de Sales, both in Macon.
