The Baldwin Bravettes basketball team improved its record to 8-2 last week with wins over Swainsboro and Spalding.
Baldwin currently sits atop the Region 4-AA standings and is ranked No. 1 in Class 4A, according to SandysSpiel.com.
Playing at home on Dec. 12, Baldwin’s 55-45 win over Swainsboro was never in doubt as the Bravettes jumped out to a 21-8 lead after the first quarter and led 33-19 at halftime.
The Tigers tightened up the score in the second half, outscoring Baldwin 12-4 in the final quarter but never were a threat to pull even.
The Bravettes were led by recent 1,000 career points scorer Madison Ruff’s 18 points and six assists. Ruff surpassed the 1,000-point mark on Dec. 8 in Macon against the Howard Huskies.
Kassidy Neal had 15 points and 6 total rebounds for Baldwin against Swainsboro, while defensively, Jasmine Williams led the team in steals with six, and Janaye Walker had eight total rebounds, including six on defense.
On Friday in its final regular season game of the year, Baldwin visited Griffin, where it won an in-conference match 73-46 over the Spalding Jaguars to take an 8-2 record into the new year.
Bravettes basketball will return to game action at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 2 when it hosts region rival Griffin (6-3). Last season, Griffin defeated the Bravettes in the Class 4A state championship game last March.
