Following last year’s new format, attendees had free admission to downtown Milledgeville. Tickets to the concert were sold online and in-person for $30.

Free admission allowed Deep Root attendees to visit the artist market, commercial corridor, restaurants, the open car show and more. In addition, local entertainment played throughout the day near Allen’s Market and this year Sinclair Marina also had four boats on display, with two open to the public to be explored.

After 6 p.m., only ticket holders could access the concert area. Richard Martin and Friends opened the night with original songs and a mix of blues and country. As part of their performance, Caitlynn Carol also played a special tribute to the famous singer Arethra Franklin on the piano. Following them, Vanessa Collier took over the stage with an emotional performance and battle among bandmates. With her love for the saxophone, she soloed many of her songs with jazzy tunes alongside her bassist. The pair played solos back and forth instigating each other in an unspoken battle onstage. The night closed with the Blues Traveler. The lead singer marveled the audience with his harmonica solos and throughout their performance, they called upon the audience to sing and clap along with them.

With this being the second year since its return after COVID, the new formatting of the Deep Roots festival will be kept moving forward. The event organizers are thankful to each and every sponsor and volunteer who ensured another great year in Deep Roots history.
