JMA finished up its three-game road trip last Friday at Frederica Academy, where the Trojans picked up their fourth win of the season in a tightly contested battle with the Knights from St. Simons Island.
JMA had a slow first half offensively, but the defense stood strong for all four quarters and sealed the victory with a pair of forced turnovers and a safety late in the second half. The Trojans nearly had a shutout victory against the Knights until a last-second score for Frederica made it a 10-point game but still a win for JMA.
The Trojans got the ball to start the game but neither team had success, and they exchanged punts before JMA’s Bryce McDonel intercepted a Knights pass at the Frederica 15-yard line.
JMA drove down the field close enough to attempt a field goal but missed from 30 yards away. After a Frederica defender intercepted McMichael’s pass, the Knights punted back to the Trojans and they scored their first points of the game with Javian Butts rushing from two yards away for a touchdown.
At the half, JMA led 7-0. After Fredrica had a short-lived opening second-half possession, McMichael completed a pass to wide receiver Justin England for a 40-yard play to set JMA up inside the Knights red zone. Bud Veal scored from three yards away to give JMA a 13-0 lead.
The Trojans would go for two and score with Jalan Butts carrying the ball for a 2-point conversion to extend JMA’s lead to 15-0.
Before the end of the fourth quarter, Tyrecus Harrison recovered a fumble to set JMA up at Frederica’s 31-yard line.
The Trojans would turn the ball over on downs after trying to score a touchdown on fourth down. But the Trojans defense sacked Fredricas quarterback in the Knights' own end zone to give JMA a 17-0 lead.
Frederica scored with only a couple of minutes left on the clock and JMA would get the ball back and run the clock out to cap off a 17-7 victory in St. Simons.
After a month of being on the road, JMA will return to Trojan Field in Milledgeville this Friday where it will host the Brookwood Warriors, who hold a 2-2 record thus far through the season.
