Trojans’ senior presence key to repeat championship

The John Milledge Academy (JMA) Trojans finished the 2022 baseball season as GISA AAA State Champions by beating Pinewood Christian Academy 6-5 last spring in their third matchup of the title series.

Coming off a state championship season can be difficult, though.

“We make sure our team knows that none of these other teams on our schedule care about us winning last season,” head coach Chad Starley said of how he and his staff try to keep their players focused.

He added that as a staff they make sure their guys are prepared, connected, disciplined, and compete at every rep during practice.

The Trojans also have seven seniors – Cayden Avant, Landon Byrd, Banks Eady, Briggs Eady, Tyler Greene, Brady Rollins and Jackson Thomas – returning as championship winners, so Starkey expects they will lead the charge toward what’s expected to be another successful season on the diamond.

“Having seven seniors that have the experience of competing and winning it all last season (as juniors) will have a tremendous impact on our success this season,” he predicted. “This senior class is disciplined, focused, connected and very determined to put themselves in a position to get back to Savannah and have a chance to repeat.”
