>> INVITATION
New Life Ministries in Milledgeville will be hosting a 13 week GriefShare course in partnership with Grief Ministry beginning on Jan. 10, 2023.
“New Life Ministries has chosen to host the GriefShare program because it has been proven effective in 15,000 churches worldwide,” said Steve Combs, GriefShare facilitator.
The GriefShare program is a local small group that will assist those suffering through grief on their healing journey. The program delves not only into grief related to death but also through job loss, divorce, estrangement from children, loss of friends and more.
“After the loss of a loved one, the goal is not to move on but to adjust to the changes,” said Combs. “Through this program people can gain perspective and hope. You may start in tears but you will leave with peace, healing and hope.”
Griefshare is led by facilitator Steve Combs. He has previously hosted special sessions that were held earlier this year and is also a previous member of the GriefShare program at another church.
“My wife of 44 years passed in 2018 and it took me about a year to feel steady on my feet. This past summer, I attended the 13 week GriefShare program at a local church and it was very helpful. Learning how to understand my own grief, motivated me to help others,” said Combs.
In a general GriefShare session, members will gather in a small group and walk through a video of counselors and testimonials. The video will open discussion among the group and provide professional feedback on the process of coping and healing through grief. In addition, each member of the group will receive a workbook that provides activities, prompts and blank pages for attendees to work through in the session and at home.
“Topics the videos cover include understanding what’s normal, wondering why, being stuck in grief, handling emotions such as guilt or anger and more,” said Combs. “After the video, we discuss how it spoke to our own personal situations. Speaking is not required but hearing personal stories helps in the healing process.”
GriefShare will be hosted Jan. 10 through April 2 on specific dates at New Life Ministries church located at 385 Log Cabin Rd NE in Milledgeville. Anyone can start attending at any time. The sessions are free and anything spoken in these sessions is kept strictly confidential.

“We invite the entire community to be involved,” said Combs. “We would like to help anyone who may be adjusting to grief.”
