Braves, War Eagles hold scrimmage

The Putnam County boys’ basketball team got to scrimmage Baldwin High last week in Milledgeville before the season opener against Northside (Columbus) on Tuesday.

The Braves, who ranked No. 4 in Class AAAA defeated the War Eagles, 62-55.

Putnam got great offensive play from guards Eren Banks, Keyni Crawford and Landon Bonner. However, their defense held a high-scoring Baldwin team to only 62 points.

War Eagles’ head coach LaPatrick Marshall recently told The Eatonton Messenger that he feels good about his team as they enter the season.

“I feel good right now. We played in a fall league at Eagle’s Landing Christian and made it to the championship game,” Marshall said last week. “Then we have our scrimmage Tuesday night at Baldwin, so that will be telling in our first regulated game since last year and I think our guys will be ready to play. They are excited about it.”

The War Eagles faced Northside (Columbus) in the 2022-23 season opener on Tuesday past press time. Their next game will be on Saturday against Hancock Central at home.
