On Nov. 2, law enforcement responded to a call about a collision on North Columbia Street.
Officers on-scene found driver, Jacob Godwin, trapped in an overturned vehicle in the World Hi-Fi parking lot. He appeared unresponsive at the scene and was soon removed and turned over to EMS personnel to be transported to the Macon Trauma Center.
According to the report, several beer cans were scattered around the vehicle and the smell of alcohol emitted from Godwin. It appeared that the vehicle left the roadway while traveling northbound before striking a culvert. It flipped several times before coming to rest upsidedown in the World Hi-Fi parking lot.
“I can say that speed was a factor in the accident and that Godwin was wearing his seatbelt, which did indeed save his life in the crash,” said Sergeant Thomas Smith.
In a follow-up on Monday, Smith stated that the driver was released from the hospital, although there are no reports of his condition upon release. In addition, other than grass, no reports of property damage were found related to the accident.
