Baldwin High School’s Career Technical Instruction (CTI) program received a donation of $2,000 from the Georgia Power Foundation.

THe CTI program was founded in 1975 and provides meaningful leadership and employment experiences for students with disabilities. Career Technical Instruction Coordinator Christina Rogers has been in charge of the program for six years at Baldwin High School but has worked in the program for 11 years overall between multiple schools.

“This program offers our students memories, enriching activities, and motivates them to strive for academic excellence,” said Rogers. “It enables them to share skills and experiences with their family and prepare themselves for the future.”

Baldwin High School offers certification programs and a CNA program through CTI. Completion of certification courses allows graduates to go straight into the workforce. For those who may not complete the certificate courses, the skills being built and taught continue to prepare them for their future career goals.

“I try to align students’ schedules if possible to complete certifications so they may go straight into the workforce, if they wish,” said Rogers.

“However, it can be difficult to schedule that. The courses will still prepare students for college or their career despite completion or not. The courses offer a very sound education for our students.”

According to Rogers, this is the second time that BHS has received a donation to their CTI program from the Georgia Power Foundation. To receive the donation, they had to complete an application process and must be selected.

“I was able to complete the application thanks to the help of Georgia Power Foundation Area Manager Greg Tyson. He felt the donation would be worthwhile to our program and that we fit Georgia Power Foundation’s mission,” said Rogers.

Rogers looks forward to using the funding to help her students to attend conferences and competitions in the Fall and the Spring of 2022 and 2023.

“Finances shouldn’t be what hinders our students from experiencing educational trips,” said Rogers. “Through this funding, our students will be able to experience so many new things and feel motivated to continue their studies.”

CTI is a state-wide program that relies solely on state funding, local businesses, and donors for all additional funding for the students that it serves. Donations like this are what allow the program to continue to run and benefit students at Baldwin High School.

“Thank you so much to the Georgia Power Foundation for offering our students new experiences to come,” said Rogers.
