Two GCSU departments move to The Depot

Georgia College & State University’s Communities in Schools department and its Continuing & Professional Education department, in the School of Continuing and Professional Studies, are moving to the Depot, at 610 W. Green St.

“The Depot will house Georgia College’s Continuing & Professional Education department providing dedicated space for workforce development workshops, business retreats, conferences, and professional networking events,” said Angela Criscoe, executive director of GCSU’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies.

“Communities in Schools Milledgeville Baldwin County (CISMB) will also move to the Depot, gaining community-accessible space for resource distribution and program coordination,” she added. “The facility includes a dedicated workspace for the CISMB director and staff to organize community support initiatives.”

Continuing & Professional Education Director Angie Woodham and CISMB Director Courtney Bentley are both happy about moving to their new location. Previously both departments were housed in GCSU’s Chappell Hall, at 216 N. Clarke St.

“I am looking forward to our team being together rather than split between two floors. When I was informed of the move, I was excited to be moving into a historic building and having access to a new, large space that can accommodate a host of activities,” said Woodham.

“As a self-sustaining department, which means we do not get the state revenue a lot of other departments receive, we are charged with generating revenue. This new meeting space will be a great opportunity to host local businesses, professional development training sessions and workshops, to partner with other campus entities, and offer a useful space to our community partners.”

Bentley said the new space will benefit CISMB by providing office and meeting space, offering a dedicated storage space, and easier parking access.

“The new location is closer to the schools and our site coordinators. It also allows us to house all of our supplies in an easily accessible location so site coordinators can access the resources they need to support our public schools and the community has a location to deliver their donations to,” said Bentley. “However, we will continue to have a donation station at each school and at Chappel Hall.”

CISMB moved in at the end of last month, and Continuing & Professional Education officially moved into the space on Monday.
