Traffic stop nets arrests

A man and a woman were arrested after riding around in a stolen pickup truck and possessing methamphetamine. Abdus Ishmael Hemphill, 39, was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, felony theft by receiving, possession of knife or firearm during the commission of a crime, as well as another drug charge.

Jordyn Marie Hebert, 32, listed with a Smyrna address, was charged with possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance, possession of a knife or firearm during the commission of a crime, misdemeanor obstruction of an officer, as well as another drug charge.

A Milledgeville Police Department officer initiated the stop in the parking lot of the Jet store at the corner of North Columbia Street and Log Cabin Road. Hemphill was detained, while Hebert exited the vehicle “carrying two large bags and began attempting to flee.” The officer began searching the car, and a handgun was located in the center console. The handgun came back clean. Also, the officer noticed there was a license plate covering up another license plate at the rear of the vehicle. Meanwhile, methamphetamine was discovered inside one of the bags that Hebert was carrying.

Hemphill had no previous criminal history in Baldwin County.
