Oak Hill addressing baseball/softball facility

    In recent years, Oak Hill Middle School’s baseball and softball facility has been, quite frankly, sort of pitiful.

    Erosion problems have caused games to be moved to Walter B. Williams Jr.

    Park or Baldwin High. When games are played at Oak HIll, dirt and straw is trucked in to cover up the problem areas on the field. There are no restrooms. There’s no concession stand. The list goes on.

    Now, however, the school board is addressing the problem, recently voting to approve a $1.8 million overhaul at the complex. The project is being funded by SPLOST.

    The contractor, Performance Services, will level the field and also mitigate the erosion problems. New restrooms will be built, as well as a concession stand and press box. Also in the works are bleachers and batting cages.

    A groundbreaking will be held next month, and the project is expected to be completed later this year.
