Georgia defensive back Javon Bullard recently announced he is forgoing his senior season as a Bulldog and will enter the 2024 NFL Draft.
Bullard, a Milledgeville native, capped off his career as a Bulldog on Dec. 30 in Georgia’s dominant 63-3 win over the Florida State Seminoles in the Orange Bowl.
Bullard finished a stellar three-year career at Georgia that included two national titles, three New Year's Six bowl victories, and three SEC title appearances, including a 50-30 win over LSU in 2022.
Bullard recently spoke with The Baldwin Bulletin about his decision to move on from Georgia.
“Any time I get a chance to come home and see my family I will,” Bullard said at Baldwin’s basketball game on Tuesday. “My career is over at the University of Georgia, so I’ve got a little free time right now. I told myself I was going to try to catch a basketball game. I’m happy I got the chance to.”
Bullard announced on New Year’s Day that he would be entering the NFL Draft.
Bullard tallied 113 tackles, 3.5 sacks, one fumble recovery, and four interceptions in his career at Georgia However, the biggest highlight of Bullard’s career came in the 2023 College Football Playoff semifinal and national championship games. Bullard delivered a huge hit to Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. to force an incomplete pass with 35 seconds to go in the third quarter of the Peach Bowl in Atlanta.
The Bulldogs would go on to pull off one of the biggest comebacks in college football history to beat the Buckeyes and advance to the national championship game. Bullard was named the Defensive MVP.
In the title game, Bullard picked off TCU quarterback Max Duggan twice in a 65-7 rout of the Horned Frogs, giving the Bulldogs their second-straight national championship. He was also named the game’s Defensive MVP for his performance against TCU at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
Bullard finished the 2023 season with two interceptions and a career-high 56 tackles, including 39 solo stops.
Bullard spoke about the moments he’ll always carry with him from his time at UGA.
“The relationships that I built with teammates, my fam. My teammates, my coaches, and my friends are my family outside of sports," Bullard said. "Man, it’s just everything. The connections that I made are probably the biggest thing and of course, being a two-time national champion, those are the things I’ll remember the most.”
Bullard left Baldwin as a three-star defensive back and now has two national championship rings, an SEC championship ring, and the opportunity to play in the NFL.
“I’m just trying to achieve my goals you know,” Bullard said. “Those goals and aspirations that I set out for myself when I was a kid and trying to fulfill those and hoping those dreams come true.”
