Man charged with child molestation, grooming

For the third time in five weeks, someone from Baldwin County was arrested on charges related to child sex crimes.

David Allen Barber, 53, was booked at the county jail late last week and charged with child molestation, enticing a child for indecent purposes, as well as grooming.

The previous two arrests did not include a grooming charge, which is a relatively new law in Georgia. Its official title is “grooming a minor for a sexual offense or trafficking for sexual servitude.” The grooming law was passed by the General Assembly in 2024 to close a legal loophole. Grooming is defined in Georgia Code as “such person knowingly and intentionally engages in a pattern of conduct or communication in person; through a third party; through the use of an electronic device, a computer, social media, or text messages; or by any other means to gain access to, to gain the compliance of, to prepare, to persuade, to induce, or to coerce a minor to engage in a sexual offense or trafficking of persons for sexual servitude.”
