The Milledgeville Police Department dealt with a very tense situation early Saturday morning in front of Jolly Roger’s, a new restaurant and bar in the Walmart shopping center.
While officers were attempting to break up a fight in the parking lot outside of the establishment, a gun fell out of a man’s pocket and discharged. “The bullet fired from the handgun struck the ground between my legs,” according to Officer Jonathan Screws’ narrative in the incident report.
Handcuffed and eventually arrested was Jamacus Huff, 24, listed with a Haddock address. He was charged with one count of reckless conduct and one count of fighting/affray. Arrested alongside Huff and charged with fighting/ affray were two women – Jaquesha Phelps, 29, and Ra’Jae Ruff, 24.
After further investigation of body cam/drone video footage, another participant in the fight was identified. Armontae Trawick, shirtless, ultimately was charged with aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, violation of Georgia’s Controlled Substance Act, fighting/ affray, as well as three counts of obstruction of an officer.
Jolly Roger’s gave its last call around 1:50 a.m., and a “large crowd spewed out into the parking lot.” The fight broke out around 20 minutes later, as patrons still lingered in the parking lot.
Also during the holiday weekend, the Georgia State Patrol increased its DUI enforcement presence, making six DUI arrests in a span of 24 hours, an unusually high number for Milledgeville/ Baldwin County. The GSP then added two more DUI arrests on Sunday night, bringing the total to eight. One trooper recorded five, while the other tallied three.
