Four women were arrested for public drunkenness during the month of March, an inordinate number.
Most recently arrested was Walteria Glenn, who reportedly vomited in a random man’s truck while attempting to take his keys in the Cookout parking lot at 3 o’clock in the morning. She was charged with public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.
On March 22, meanwhile, deputies responded to Lakeside Liquor in the 3060 block of North Columbia Street after dispatch was advised that an “intoxicated female pushed a male down and took his vape.” Deputies spotted a woman matching the description, who was sitting on the back steps of the liquor store and “surrounded by open cans of an alcoholic beverage known as ‘Twisted Tea.’” The woman initially gave deputies a false name. When that didn’t work, she began yelling and cussing. On the way to the county jail, the woman said that she “would kill me and burn my house down,” according to one of the deputy’s narratives in the incident report. Kimberly Diann Harrington, listed with an Athens address, was charged with terroristic threats, public drunkenness, disorderly conduct, and giving a false name.
On the same day, a pair of deputies responded to Cook Street “in reference to a woman lying in the roadway.” One of the first things the deputies noted was that the woman’s “pants were pulled down.” The deputies also noted “slurred speech,” “loss of balance,” “loss of memory” and “a strong odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage emitting from her person.” Lauralye Anita Ray, 20, was charged with public drunkenness.
Earlier in the month, meanwhile, a deputy responded to “The Manor Mall” convenience store on the Vinson Highway after a customer became upset after she “was playing the slot machines” and having “a disagreement with the cashier over not receiving a cash payment for their winnings.” When the deputy arrived, three women were standing in a ditch for some reason, “arguing and screaming at one another.” When it was all said and done, Latasia Shalon Mosley, 19, was arrested and charged with one count of public drunkenness.
