The Milledgeville City Council recognized two groups and approved several resolutions and appointments during its first monthly meeting.
The meeting began with Mayor Mary Parham-Copelan reading a proclamation for May 6-12 naming it National Nurses Week to encourage all citizens to celebrate nurses’ efforts and accomplishments.
“Registered nurses in the United States constitute our nation’s largest healthcare profession and the depth and breadth of the nursing profession meets the different and emerging healthcare needs of the American population in a wide range of settings,” said Parham-Copelan. “It is proper and fitting to highlight our nurses’ dedication and effort to improve our healthcare system as they nurture, lead, and inspire every day.”
The proclamation was awarded to Chief Nursing Officer Angela Lintz at Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin. Lintz has been a nurse since 1992 and a nurse leader since 2005. Prior to her role at the local hospital, she served as director of medical cardiology at the Luce Heart Institute at Atrium Health Navicent Heart and Vascular Care in Macon.
“I am so proud to be here in Milledgeville and look forward to becoming a resident here,” said Lintz. “Please take this time to think about and pray for all of our healthcare workers in addition to nurses.”
Following the proclamation, Executive Director Carlee Schulte of Milledgeville Main Street Downtown Development Authority introduced the third class of the organization’s Junior Board of Directors to the council.
“The purpose of forming the board was to reach a population of future community leaders and engage them in local fundraising and volunteer experiences,” said Schulte.
Each member received a certificate and pin to honor their “contribution and devotion to this board.”
Moving to the city manager’s report, Hank Griffeth reported that the city had two budget meetings this past week to discuss proposed increases or changes. Dependent on what was decided during those two meetings, the budget may be approved during the first meeting in June.
Then, council authorized a lease and maintenance agreement with Ricoh USA, Inc. for a copier to be shared in the Planning and Zoning, Inspections, Human Resources and Engineering Departments.
Council authorized a stormwater drainage easement across portions of property owned by Jill Chapman, located at 117 S. Cambridge and across portions of property owned by Thomas Brown, located at 119 S. Cambridge.
The meeting ended with the reappointments of Col. John Alton to the Planning & Zoning Board and Brian Milner to the Allied Arts Board.
