The Milledgeville city council met on Tuesday and passed several ordinances, including one for a car sales lot.
The meeting began with an award to Human Resources Coordinator Sandra Witherspoon for completing The Georgia Local Government Personnel Association’s Level I Certification to become certified as a human resources manager.
Then, the meeting moved into old business. A public hearing was conducted for amending a property on 1231 North Columbia Street to allow a car sales lot with 10 cars in the CC district. No one spoke in opposition, and it was unanimously approved.
In addition, the city council decided to reschedule the second reading of the ordinance to amend the 2022-23 fiscal year annual operating budget to increase public safety certified positions. The ordinance should return in January after thorough review.
Moving into new business, the council heard the first reading of an ordinance to consider amending the Land Development Code to allow the special use overlay for a group residents at 301 South Liberty Street. The ordinance was then assigned to the Planning and Zoning committee.
The council unanimously approved an agreement with Thompson Fence and Construction Company to make repairs to the Lake Oliver Hardy Dam.
The council unanimously approved a resolution to cancel the Dec. 27 council meeting and work session due to the Christmas holiday.
However, the resolution to cancel the Jan. 24, 2023, council meeting and work session due to the Cities United Summit was denied.
The meeting closed with the approval of multiple alcohol licenses and the appointment of multiple individuals. Frank Baugh was appointed to the Mainstreet/Downtown Development Authority and Veronica Womack, Irvin Griffin, Pamela Beer and Carrie Jarrett were all appointed as alternates to the Ethics Committee.
