The Milledgeville City Council presented a proclamation and approved two resolutions on Tuesday.

The meeting began with a prayer from City Manager Hank Griffeth who was “on the ground” during the tornado that caused disaster on Sunday. In his prayer, Griffeth gave thanks to everyone from the county and surrounding areas that supported Baldwin County after the tornado’s impact. He also asked for healing and restoration for the lives affected by the tornado.

“Lord, we have seen your power, your comfort, your care and your blessings these last few days. We thank you for the protection that was given so that our community had no fatalities,” said Griffeth. “We thank you for everyone who came out to support us.”

Following his prayer, City Clerk Bo Danuser read the Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month Proclamation which was presented to the Milledgeville Exchange Club.

“Thousands of Georgia children live in fear of physical harm or go without life’s basic necessities due to neglect and where as many parents who do not understand the ways children development, need to be supported and taught the right ways to care for their children, the National Exchange Club and its local affiliates has embraced the mission of prevention of child abuse in our nation and community,” read Danuser from the proclamation.

The Milledgeville Exchange Club will be observing National Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month and will be sponsoring “Wear Blue for Child Abuse Prevention” on Mondays, April 3, 10, 17, and 24.

“These promotions and events serve as reminders to all parents and adults that the protection of our children is one of the greatest responsibilities we have as a community of responsible citizens,” read Danuser from the proclamation.

Moving forward, the council approved two resolutions.

The council unanimously approved a resolution to authorize a Utility Aid Memorandum with the Georgia Department of Transportation for financial assistance in moving water and sewer utility mains on their State Route 29 bridge reconstruction over Fishing Creek.

“That resolution means we are asking help for moving some water and sewer lines. The bridge on South Wayne Street will be raised as part of a Georgia Department of Transportation directive,” said Steve Chambers, pro-tem of the Milledgeville City Council. “Because they are going to raise the bridge, we have to raise the lines accordingly underneath the bridge.”

They also unanimously approved a resolution agreeing to participate in the National Teva, Allergan, CVS, Walgreens, and Walmart settlements and agreeing to be bound by an anticipated Memorandum of Understanding between the State of Georgia and Georgia Subdivisions regarding the national Teva, Allergan, CVS, Walgreens and Walmart settlements.

City Council meetings are on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month beginning at 6:30 p.m. on the second floor of Milledgeville City Hall.
