Lake Oconee Elks visit veterans in Milledgeville

Lake Oconee Elks (LOE) Lodge volunteers visited the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville Feb. 25, to treat resident veterans there to a catered lunch from Ms Stellas of Milledgeville.

Nearly 40 veterans and 10 staff members enjoyed fried chicken with all the sides that go along with the meal. Twenty-seven lodge members also attended as volunteers to push wheelchairs, fix plates, and visit with the veterans while they ate.

Lodge member James Lakeman donated a programmable picture frame that included many photos of recent LOE events with the veterans.

Several of LOE’s newest members were present to help make the lunch a big success.

Also, lodge members completed the delivery of gently used clothing valued at more than $5,000 donated by lodge members during a recent clothing drive for the veterans’ home.

The next LOE event at the Georgia War Veterans Home is a bingo game scheduled for March 25 with a St. Patrick's Day theme hosted by “Bingo Bob” calling the numbers. The Elks Lodge will also provide snacks, cake, and ice cream, with prizes for all. Decorations for the event are already underway, thanks to Elk Beth Colie.
