Georgia Military College Preparatory School is proud to announce that seniors, Cadet Gweneth Smith and Cadet William Steinfeld, have been selected as semifinalists for the National Merit Scholarship Program.
The National Merit Scholarship Program honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies.
Over 1.3 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools entered the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screen of program entrants.
The nationwide pool of semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. The number of semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.
Cadet Smith and Cadet Steinfeld have demonstrated exceptional academic prowess, dedication, and commitment to their studies. Their remarkable achievement as National Merit Scholarship semifinalists is a testament to their hard work, intellectual curiosity, and academic excellence.
'Being named National Merit Scholarship semifinalists is an incredible honor, and it reflects the dedication of both Cadets Smith and Steinfeld,' said Colonel Amy Lee, principal of Georgia Military College Preparatory School. 'We are immensely proud of their accomplishments and look forward to their continued success as they progress in the National Merit Scholarship competition.'
As semifinalists, Smith and Steinfeld now have the opportunity to advance in the competition, vying for one of the coveted 7,140 National Merit Scholarships collectively worth nearly $28 million, which will be awarded in the spring.
Georgia Military College Preparatory School congratulates Cadets Smith and Steinfeld on this significant achievement and wishes them the best of luck as they move forward in the National Merit Scholarship Program.
