Century Bank & Trust donated $25,000 to the Friends of Milledgeville Police Foundation, Inc. through Georgia’s new Qualified Law Enforcement Donation Tax Credit program.

The donation will help enhance public safety efforts and provide resources that strengthen the department’s ability to serve and protect the Milledgeville community.

“This generous contribution from Century Bank & Trust is a tremendous investment in the safety of our citizens and the wellbeing of our officers,” said Dray Swicord, chief of the Milledgeville Police Department. “The support of community partners like Century makes it possible for us to provide resources and programs that go beyond our normal operating budget, ultimately helping us better serve Milledgeville.”

The Qualified Law Enforcement Donation Tax Credit, enacted under Georgia law in 2023, gives individuals and businesses the ability to contribute directly to local law enforcement foundations—such as the Friends of MPD Foundation — and receive a state tax credit in return. The program is intended to supplement public safety resources, bolster transparency and trust, and encourage civic investment in policing innovations and community policing efforts.

The Friends of Milledgeville Police Department Law Enforcement Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit that partners with the Milledgeville Police Department and community stakeholders to provide training, wellness, equipment, outreach, and public trust initiatives. The Foundation’s vision is to create a Milledgeville where law enforcement and the community stand shoulder to shoulder to protect, serve, and thrive.

“As a community bank, we are deeply invested in the safety and vitality of Milledgeville,” said Derek Williams, president and CEO of Century Bank & Trust. “This new program gives us an opportunity to directly support the men and women who protect our community every day, and we are honored to contribute to the Friends of Milledgeville Police Foundation.”

Every gift to the Foundation helps ensure officers are better prepared, healthier, and more connected with residents, and supports projects aligned with measurable public safety outcomes. To learn more visit friendsofmpdlef. org — Contributed
