New details emerge in motorcycle fatality

Posted in:

The Georgia State Patrol recently wrapped up its preliminary investigation following a traffic fatality late last week.

To date, no charges or citations have been filed against the truck driver involved in the accident, although a GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is still investigating the matter.

The accident involved a red Honda street bike and a Freightliner big rig. The street bike was being driven by Wildred Orlando Pounds, a 48-year-old Milledgeville man, while the Freightliner was being driven by a 44-year-old man with an Alabama address.

According to the GSP accident report, the Freightliner “was traveling north on “(North Columbia Street) in the left lane. (The street bike) was traveling north on (North Columbia Street) in the right lane. (The driver of the Freightliner then) attempted to turn right into a private drive from the left lane. (The driver of the Freightliner) did not see (the street bike). (The street bike) struck the right side of (the Freightliner) and (the street bike) came to final rest in the private drive.”

The accident occurred near North Columbia’s intersection with Marshall Road.

Pounds “is survived by his wife, Carla Pounds, several children, other relatives and friends,” according to his official obituary from Slater’s Funeral Home.
