Chris “C.J.” Jameson, owner of C.J.’s Sports Collectibles on South Wayne Street, is New England to the core.

When Jameson says the name Tom Brady, it comes out sounding more like “T’om Breedy.” Jameson, who grew up in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, recently opened downtown’s newest business at 136 South Wayne St., located across from Ryals Bakery.

“What we’re doing is bringing autographed memorabilia of all kinds to this community, whether it’s sports of otherwise,” said Jameson. “I know a guy who travels all over the country. My passion is to help people grow their collections.”

Lining the walls are autographed movie posters and autographed sports jerseys. Also included are signed miniature helmets and pylons, which are the orange markers in the end zone of football fields. The Georgia Bulldogs, naturally, are the most represented team. Featured near the front of the store is an autographed jersey for Hines Ward, who starred for the Dawgs’ football team in the 1990s. Each signed jersey comes with a “Certificate of Authenticity,” which can be verified online, according to Jameson.

Although the majority of the memorabilia is sportsthemed, Jameson says that his personal favorite is his “Jason Voorhees Box,” which includes an autographed machete, an autographed hatchet, an autographed hockey mask and an autographed jersey.

“I am trying to collect one piece from every actor who played Jason in the Friday the 13th) movies,” he said. “This is my prized possession here. We focus on a wide variety of collections.”
