Quentin Christopher Barfield, 26, of Milledgeville, spent time in Putnam County Jail recently after allegedly taking gunshots at a vehicle driven by female coworkers of his on Hwy. 441 while driving himself.

According to Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills, Barfield and two victims – sisters who also reside in Milledgeville – are employed by Bluestem in Eatonton. The Sheriff said the shooting incident stemmed from Barfield repeatedly asking one of the sisters out but being turned down.

Sheriff Sills said all three got off work at the same time on Halloween night, Oct. 31.

“(The sisters) were traveling back toward Milledgeville in a white Honda automobile and Barfield came alongside of them in the westbound lane of 441 in his green colored Lexus SUV,” he said. “Upon getting parallel with them, Barfield pulled out a pistol and repeatedly shot into the Honda occupied by the females. The sisters stopped immediately after being shot at and called 911.

“My deputies responded to their location in the 400 block of Milledgeville Road (US 441). My dispatchers put a BOLO for Barfield and his Lexus. Shortly after my deputies arrived on the scene my office was contacted by Milledgeville Police Department and informed us they had Barfield in custody having stopped him in his Lexus near the Kroger store on the north side of Milledgeville.

“Our examination of the victims’ Honda revealed it had been hit with three rounds of gunfire. We recovered one bullet and several bullet fragments from the car.”

Barfield was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of discharging a firearm on a public roadway. He was released from jail on bond, according to the Sheriff, with conditions that forbid him from having any contact, direct or indirect with either of the victims. He is also prohibited from possessing any firearm while out on bond.
