On September 10, Georgia Military College Preparatory School will hold a Patriot Day Ceremony. The ceremony will serve as a way to announce the award to the winner of the Alan B. Posner Scholarship to one GMC prep student.

The ceremony is also being hosted by the New Day Foundation. NewDay USA provides the Allan B. Posner Scholarship to sons and daughters of Gold Star families, Veterans that are 100 percent service-related disabled, and those that have served in the Global War on Terror. Since 2013, the foundation has donated over $6 million towards scholarships for veteran children.

Rob Posner, CEO of NewDay USA, and his wife, Zina, will be in attendance.

Posner and his wife visited the campus in May to give the scholarship to Kaitlyn and Buck Jackson. Kaitlyn and Buck are the first scholarship recipients to attend the new K-2 grades, which relaunched this academic year.

The Alan B. Posner scholarship covers tuition and fees for the children of veterans to attend GMC Prep and other JROTC high schools. Since its creation, the scholarship has been awarded to over 60 veteran children, 35 of whom attend or have attended GMC Prep.

The ceremony will also include a 9/11 commemoration featuring a laying of a wreath by GMC Prep School students, a 21 Gun Salute from the Georgia National Guard, and the firing of the GMC cannon.

GMC Prep is a K-12 JROTC school located in Milledgeville. Since 1879, GMC Prep has been educating students in Baldwin County and surrounding areas.
