An animal cruelty arrest recently was made involving a mistreated dog.

The arrest was made in the 140 block of Lake Drive Southwest, located behind Rod’s Stop & Shop on Allen Memorial Drive. A deputy met up with an animal control officer and quickly spotted the dog. “Although the dog was provided a dog house, food, and water,” according to an incident report, a chain “was attached around the dog’s neck with a padlock and the amount of chain around the dog’s neck was very short, causing the chain to break through the dog’s skin.”

The deputy then spoke with the mother of the dog’s owner, who conveyed that her son “had dropped the dog off to her around last Tuedsay and said he could no longer keep the dog at his residence due to being an apartment.” The woman told the deputy that she’d told her son that she wouldn’t be able to take care of the dog “due to her upcoming surgery.” The woman added that she was providing food and water to the dog, “but that the dog was not eating or drinking.” The animal control officer then told the woman that “the dog was not eating or drinking most likely due to the amount of pain and discomfort the dog was in.” The animal control officer

The animal control officer then took possession of the dog. A cruelty to animals warrant was served on Clinton Jamar Reeves, 40, who eventually turned himself in at the county jail.
